Airbnb Takes You on the Perfect Foodie Field Trip in Italy

If you thought Airbnb was just great for finding a place to crash in an undiscovered city or to find the magical spot where you’ll spend your dream vacation — think again, because the home sharing company is so much more.

The company recently launched “Experience” packages, and well, they’re a pretty cool way to explore your destination: By booking these one-of-a-kind local activities you can cruise the streets of Miami to a secret location by bike, explore Havana’s music scene with an award-winning vocalist, sample Seoul’s secret culinary gems with a master, and my personal favorite: truffle hunting in Florence.

That’s right, for $203 you’ll get to tag along with one of Italy’s top truffle hunters, Giulio, for two days as you learn the basics at one of Florence’s gourmet food shops, Gastronomia Galanti. The experience lets you stroll the truffle trail in a forest with his dog Eda and then head back to his house in Bagno a Ripoli for a cleaning tutorial and truffle tasting with wine pairings, bruschetta, and—obviously—enjoyable conversation centered around truffles.

Not only is Guilio “an utter joy to be around,” according to Airbnber Corinne, but as a certified member of the Tuscan Truffle Hunters Association, he’s legit. So, you’re in good hands with him and Eda. Oh, and his casa is basically a shrine to these delizioso fungi with with paintings, poems, and various truffle memorabilia to peruse.

The entire experience lasts for six hours over two days, with snacks and drinks provided, and can be booked at Airbnb. That said, you’ll still need to book accommodations…and while it’s not mandatory to stay in an Airbnb to book the experience, they do have quite a few dream-worthy places that will get you inspired to book your Truffle Hunting trip, like:
