This past weekend Chrissy Teigen casually mentioned on Twitter that she was interested in making banana bread, but she didn’t seem to have the perfect brown bananas. Some people threw out ideas on how to brown bananas quickly, but Teigen didn’t engage. Brown bananas aren’t that hard to come by — you just leave them out on the counter for a bit — so we assumed that Teigen had found what she needed. But apparently this wasn’t the case.
Today, a full four days later, Teigen sought out people in LA to help her get her hands on six brown bananas. She asked people on Twitter to pose with the bananas and give the peace sign.
A lot of people didn’t understand that Teigen was looking for brown bananas, not just any banana, and posted photos of themselves — or their children — with a bunch of bright-yellow bananas.
Other people didn’t take Teigen’s request so seriously.
A few people did in fact have six brown bananas to give to Teigen, but they didn’t always live in the LA area.
Finally Meg Zukin tweeted that she had five speckled bananas she could give Chrissy Teigen. Apparently Zukin lives rather close to Teigen’s assistant, so even though it was one less banana than she wanted, it was too convenient not to jump on the opportunity. Let’s just hope the bananas are large enough to work for Teigen’s recipe.
Kitchn’s Tips for Chrissy Teigen’s Banana Bread Crisis
On Twitter Chrissy Teigen said she specifically didn’t want anyone’s tips on browning bananas faster, but we can’t help ourselves. If you need brown bananas to make banana bread, you can roast yellow ones in the oven so they get soft and sweet. To do this, you heat your oven to 300°F, put the bananas on a cookie sheet, and leave them in there for just 30 minutes. It’s really that easy. Get the full tutorial here.
