Jared Bramblett, a civil engineer and photographer, combines his two areas of expertise in his new exhibit Urbanities, opening at the Charleston Music Hall on Thurs. Sept. 14. A free opening reception will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Bramblett focuses on “urban oddities” in his photos, capturing the quirks and human touches of life in Charleston and other cities he travels to. His aim is to showcase how humans both influence and interact with the built and natural environments around them.
The crux of Bramblett’s work is summed up by a Jane Jacobs quote he provides: “By its nature, the metropolis provides what otherwise could be given only by traveling; namely, the strange.” He defends this theory by photographing the strangeness encountered just by strolling through a diverse urban area.
The exhibit will be on display at the Music Hall, Mon.-Fri. 10 a.m.-3 p.m. through Oct. 20.
