Chippy fans, good news. Come December you can wash a plate of The Codfather’s fish and chips with a pint. That’s the word from owner Adam Randall who today closed on the chip shop’s new location at 4254 Spruill Ave.
After two years in the small space he renovated at 1809 Reynolds Ave., Randall says his lease is up and he’s moving out.
“Things are out of my control and, let’s face it, I need more square footage anyway,” Randall says of the move. “I can’t get any more successful where I‘m at.” So he’s moving his operation into the former Z-Bar and, in addition to getting more space, the shift comes with the opportunity to sell beer and wine.
“We’re going to sell as much British, Irish, and Scottish beer on tap and in cans as we can,” he says.
For the most part, the simple menu of fish, chips, and mushy peas will stay the same. However, the bigger space on Spruill will also allow Randall and his brother — a chef who just moved to the U.S. — to expand The Codfather’s pie program.
“We’re going to have the whole pie line available every day instead of when we get to it,” says Randall. In preparation, the team has been experimenting with local ingredients including a recent chicken and chanterelle pie as well as a shrimp pie sourced from the Tarvin family.
Randall’s lease at his old location ends in December. He plans to open the new Codfather by Dec. 1.
