This Couple Flew Over 400 Miles to Whataburger to Try the New Burger

Have you ever heard of the $100 hamburger? It’s aviation slang for the excuse a pilot might make to take a short flight. It consists of a two-hour or less flight to another airport, eating a hamburger at the airport restaurant, and flying home. The $100 refers to the cost of gas to get there and back. So, if you owned a plane, would you take the flight for Whataburger’s Chorizo burger?

One couple answers a resounding yes! Whataburger fans Christina Croasdale and her husband Rick recently moved away from Houston, Texas. With the move, they lost their favorite fast food restaurant. The nearest Whataburger was a staggering 380 miles away!

What’s a Whataburger Lover to Do?

Luckily, they own a private plane. They’ve never taken the $100 hamburger trip but now was the time. They hopped in and headed to Jacksonville, Florida, 380 miles away to pick up a chorizo burger and a side of french fries. After gobbling down the meal, the couple headed back to the plane and went home.

Whataburger employees couldn’t believe it when they learned Croasdale flew in just to try the chorizo burger. Do they think the trip was worth it? Absolutely! As Croasdale said,

“As a native Texan, sometimes you just want chorizo! I saw all of my friends back in Texas flock to Whataburger to try the burger, and they loved it. I knew I needed to get my hands on it!”

Whataburger is more than just a fast food restaurant chain to its fans. A trip to McDonald’s, Wendy’s, or Chick-fil-A won’t suffice. Heck, even In-N-Out isn’t a suitable substitute!

The famous fast food burger was founded in 1950 by Harmon Dobson in Corpus Christi, Texas. Dobson had one goal: to make customers say “What a burger!” I’d say he’s been successful, as the chain has become so popular it’s spread to Phoenix, Arizona, California, and as far as Virginia.

This family-owned and operated fast food chain released specialty foods from time to time. The chorizo burger is the newest in that line, which has included the iconic green-chile cheeseburger, the honey butter chicken biscuit, and the chophouse burger.

So, what do you think: would you travel for a taste of the classic Texas Whataburger?
