Thanks to my daily green juice and maintaining a strict never-ever-ever-ever!-touch-the-face protocol, my skin is super clear. But recently I started to freak out about how little sun I am exposed to on a daily basis and decided that this lack of sunshine was definitely, positively, absolutely affecting my health, whether I realized it or not. The body doesn’t create vitamin D on its own, and because I am not a huge beef liver consumer, where was I getting sufficient amounts of this essential vitamin?
So, I bought vitamin D3 oil and began to squirt it into a morning shot of equal parts ginger and lemon. I didn’t notice any health effects – all that stuff works in mysterious ways I’ll never know (semi-blind trust is key with most supplements I take) – but what I did notice was that my skin glowed up. I started getting compliments and could see the obvious change myself. All I could trace this phenomenon back to was the addition of vitamin D3 oil to my diet. Why Vitamin D3
Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin that enables your body to absorb calcium and phosphorus. The recommended form of vitamin D is vitamin D3, or cholecalciferol, which is the natural form of vitamin D that your body makes from sunlight. Because of this, it is often called the “sunshine vitamin”. Vitamin D is essential for the operation of many important systems in the body, and recent research has suggested that we may need much more of it than we previously thought. Vitamin D bolsters overall health and plays a vital role in the proper functioning of muscles, the lungs, the heart and the brain. Vitamin D also supports a healthy immune system and may assist your body in fighting off illnesses. Additionally, vitamin D may regulate blood pressure and promote healthy circulation and cardiovascular function. Bottom line: it affects a lot.
Whether we aren’t outdoors as much as our ancestors were or the quality of our food is stagnating, many of us are simply not getting enough vitamin D. In fact, Vitamin D deficiency affects half of the world’s population, across all ethnicities and age groups. This can be fatal.
Despite all this, what I was much keener on understanding was how consumption of vitamin D3 oil was working to improve my skin. Unfortunately, a Google search for answers often contradicted the plausibility of the results I experienced with expert quotes saying that vitamin D3 oil doesn’t do much for outer beauty. So, what gives?
I discovered that vitamin D3 is being researched more and more for its anti-inflammatory properties, which help to calm skin conditions, particularly psoriasis, but nothing striking beyond that. Most of the vitamin D3 benefits were tied to healthy, strong bones. The more I dug, the more I began to understand that vitamin D3 is simply another valuable piece of the puzzle that helps to balance internal health. It may have just been my missing piece. But perhaps it’s yours, too?
And as the old adage goes, real beauty comes from within, so if you are missing something essential in your diet, it may be affecting your outer appearance. The smallest imbalance could wreak havoc on your skin or simply make it a less stellar version of itself.
What Vitamin D3 Oil To Get & How to Use It
If you want to find out whether vitamin D could benefit you as it did me, look for oil supplements that provide D3 (cholecalciferol) rather than D2 (ergocalciferol). The pure and potent vitamin D3 is diluted with a base – in the product I use, vitamin D3 oil is paired with MCTs (medium chain triglycerides).
