Yesterday Veep star Julia Louis-Dreyfus announced her own diagnosis. Louis-Dreyfus joins one in eight women who are diagnosed with breast cancer in their life. The most commonly diagnosed cancer among American women. While incidents in breast cancer have decreased, statistics suggest that 40,610 women in the U.S. will die from breast cancer this year.
In order to help support research for this horrible disease, Wasabi is giving back. Through the month of October, the restaurant is selling “The Pink Dragon,” sushi special ($12). The Pink Dragon features tempura shrimp, arugula, snow crab, tobiko, cream cheese, and avocado. According to a press release, “The dish is wrapped with pink soy paper, garnished with rainbow bell peppers, and sweet onions and finished with ginger vinegar and cilantro pesto.
Wasabi will also offer a Hana-Awaka “Sparkling Flower” Sake for $15. A portion of the proceeds from every Pink Dragon and and sake special sold in the month of October will go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
“Our team is excited and honored to support the fight against breast cancer this month,” says Johnny Chan, owner and chef of Wasabi. “We are also excited to introduce a specialty roll that our customers probably have never seen before, and I must say it’s delicious.”
